Real Project: The Classic Garden Studio with a Veranda (Work & Relax)

When browsing for a garden office, most people look for internal floor space. But as this charming installation proves, the external space is just as important for your daily wellbeing.
This "Studio" model features a deep, covered veranda with a sturdy timber railing. It transforms the building from a simple workspace into a versatile garden retreat.
1. The Veranda: Your "Break Room"
Working from home can be intense. Without the water cooler chat or the walk to the sandwich shop, it's easy to stay glued to the screen for 8 hours.
This cabin offers a built-in solution: The Veranda.
- Rain or Shine: Because the roof overhang covers the decking, you can step outside for fresh air even when it's drizzling.
- Coffee Spot: There is enough space for a small bistro table and chair. It’s the perfect transition zone between "home" and "work."
2. Dealing with Slopes (Raised Decking)
Look at the ground level in the photo. The garden slopes away quite steeply to the right. Instead of digging out tons of earth to flatten the garden (which is expensive and messy), we installed the cabin on a raised timber sub-frame.
- The Steps: Wide, solid steps lead up to the entrance, giving the building a grand, elevated feel.
- The Railing: Essential for safety on raised decks, the cross-braced railing also adds a lovely "ranch" or "lodge" aesthetic to the build.
3. Traditional Charm
While many modern offices are grey boxes, this client opted for a classic timber look.
- Rich Stain: The cabin is treated in a warm, reddish-brown preservative (like Cedar or Mahogany), which highlights the wood grain.
- Contrasting Trim: The dark brown doors and windows frame the view perfectly.
- Shutters: Just like the Glasgow model, this studio features functional shutters, adding character and security.
Summary
This project reminds us that a garden office isn't just about productivity; it's about enjoying your garden. The veranda gives you a front-row seat to nature, making those long workdays much more enjoyable.
